THOMAS ALEXANDER

VICE PRESIDENT & Executive COACH

Thomas L Alexander III. serves as the Vice President for our firm. He has had an expansive career in higher education with a particular focus in student affairs administration and diversity, equity, and inclusion. Having served as associate vice president, executive director as well as associate dean at a broad range of institutions that include highly selective liberal arts colleges, public land grant institutions, and historically black universities, he has had the opportunity to develop strategic plans for both university, state-wide and departmental initiatives.

 

Throughout his more than two-decade long career, he has developed a talent for recruiting members to teams that were exceptional additions to each institution. He further expanded his portfolio by serving as Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and the career center director at Florida A&M University where he had oversight for Housing and Residential Life, the Student Union, Diversity and Inclusion, Student Activities, the Student Government Association, the Career Center and Campus Recreation. There, he continued to develop his employer relations skills by deepening his understanding of the needs of each organization and partnering with them to identify outstanding student talent.

Prior to that, he served as the Associate Dean of Students at Bucknell University where he provided vision, direction and support to International Student Services, Multicultural Student Services, the Office of LGBTQ Resources, and the Women’s Resource Center. He led in the development of the Intercultural Equity & Advocacy (IEA); a network of collaborative offices that assists the Bucknell community to be a more inclusive and supportive educational environment for students, particularly at the intersections of culture, ethnicity, gender expression and identity, nationality, race and sexuality. Thomas served on the President's Diversity Council and was a key stakeholder and leader in the creation of Bucknell's strategic plan for diversity.

He also spent 11 years as Special Assistant for Diversity to the Vice President for Student Affairs/Director of Student Involvement at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Where he spent most of his years developing strategic initiatives and partnerships. Thomas has extensive experience in interviewing, hiring and developing talented diverse and inclusive leader for senior level positions. He has served and chaired several senior level searches during his 20 plus years in academe.

Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, he is a fan of mid-century modern homes, top-down driving, and travel. He received his bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and master’s in Student Personnel Services from the University of South Carolina. Thomas and his family split time between Boston and New York City.
