Cheryl is a Human Resources and Diversity/Inclusion Executive with greater than 35 years’ experience in multiple industries including health care, academia, research, credit card services, communications and manufacturing. A graduate of Brown University, she has held senior human resources leadership roles with American Express, UF Health Jacksonville (formerly University Medical Center), Brigham and Women’s Hospital, University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
In January 2016, following over 7 years as Vice President of Human Resources for Wake Forest Baptist, Cheryl became the first Vice President of Diversity and Inclusion for the integrated medical center inclusive of the medical school, patient care operations and research. She provided development and advancement of the overall strategy for diversity, inclusion and equity efforts affecting patients, students, staff, faculty and the community. Under her leadership, the organization achieved Leader status in LGBTQ Health (Health Equality Index), signed the American Hospital Association’s Pledge to Equity, increased learnings
to enhance cultural competence and built new community partnerships. Cheryl completed the AAMC Healthcare Executive Diversity Program in 2016.
Cheryl earned leadership certification from YWCA’s Momentum Program and is a recipient of 2011 North Carolina Triad Business Journal Women in Business award as well as the 2017 Human Relations Award from the Winston Salem Chronicle. She has served on multiple boards including the Hubbard House, Jacksonville, FL; Frank Lloyd Wright Studio, Oak Park, Ill, YWCA and Junior Achievement, Birmingham, AL; Forsyth Futures, Habitat for Humanity and Winston Salem State University Foundation, Winston Salem, NC; the latter three as chair.
Cheryl and her husband, Ron, returned to Jacksonville, FL in June 2017 following retirement from full time roles. They continue following their life’s passion in diversity, inclusion, equity and social justice through Locke Family & Associates and Cheryl has now joined EDI to advance that work.
